Proposed Bill Aimed at Protecting Illinois Process Servers

The Illinois Association of Professional Process Servers (ILAPPS) is pleased to announce its first legislative initiative of the year. SB2004 was introduced by Senator Mike Jacobs (D Moline). It elevates from a misdemeanor to a felony any assault or battery to a process server. Recent attacks prompted the formation of the Association. The bill will go to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where testimony will be presented.

Washington Man Threatens Process Server with Shotgun

FERNDALE,Wash. -- A Whatcom County man faces charges for allegedly firing three shotgun blasts at a process server.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Meade says the process server presented legal papers to the 65 year old Steven Kayser at his home in the 7100 block of Everett Road near Ferndale Thursday afternoon.

Kayser became upset and told the server he had five seconds to leave the property or he would be shot.

The server retreated as Kayser retrieved a 12 gauge shotgun from his shop and fired a round into the air.
