John Edwards Hiding From Process Server?

John Edwards is a wanted man. Specifically, by the hapless legal courier who for the past few weeks has been trying to serve him with court papers to compel him to give a sworn deposition in the lawsuit his mistress, Rielle Hunter, filed against his former aide, Andrew Young.

"Let us know if you find him," chortles Young's attorney, Robert "Hoppy" Elliot. "Because we've been looking for him all over the place!"

Elliot and his team have company. Since surfacing in January, when he went to Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake, John Edwards has literally disappeared from the national scene. Over the past two months, he receded even further, becoming a ghost even around the Research Triangle of North Carolina, which he calls home. Few of the people who worked for him as a presidential candidate have heard from him, and not even his lawyers return reporters' repeated phone calls. (They also refuse to accept the deposition subpoena on behalf of their client.)

Celebrities Subpoenaed in Shaver Trial

In its second day of testimony, the trial of Billy Joe Shaver has attracted several big name celebrities to the courtroom.

Reportedly, actor Robert Duvall, best know for his performance in "The Godfather," along with Grammy Award winning country singer Willie Nelson, arrived at the McLennan County Courthouse Thursday morning.

Actor and San Saba native Tommy Lee Jones is rumored to appear Friday.

The first witness called by the defense was Shaver's wife, Wonda. She is expected to continue testifying Friday.

The owner of Pappa Joe Saloon, the scene of the alleged crime, testified about what she saw the night of the incident.

In March 2007, Shaver allegedly shot 53-year-old Billy Coker in the face, injuring his cheek, at Pappa Joe's Saloon in Lorena, about 15 miles south of Waco.

Grand Jury Subpoenas Issued in Sen. Ensign Probe

A federal grand jury reportedly has issued subpoenas in a probe of Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, who has been under scrutiny for his efforts to find lobbying work for the husband of his former mistress.

According to one subpoena obtained by a Las Vegas television station, recipients were ordered to testify March 31 in Washington, D.C., and to turn over documents relating to the Republican senator.

TV station KLAS reported Thursday that the subpoenas went to six unnamed Las Vegas businesses. One of the subpoenas posted on the station's Web site blacks out the recipient's identity.

Ensign's affair and the legal problems it has engendered have derailed talk that he might make a run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 and forced him to resign his position as chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee.

Asked about the subpoenas, Ensign's spokeswoman Rebecca Fisher, said, "Sen. Ensign is confident he has complied with all ethics rules and laws and will cooperate with any official inquiries."

The FBI and Senate Ethics Committee are investigating whether Ensign tried to limit political damage from an affair he had with the wife of one of his Senate aides by conspiring to help the aide find a new job as a lobbyist, which might have violated restrictions on lobbying by former congressional staff.
