Man may have tried to shoot server : ServeNow.com: "A Nevada City man is set to appear in court today to face assault charges after he allegedly tried to shoot a process server who went to his house on Tumbling Creek Road
John Branham, 47, pointed his rifle at server Frank Fire Thunder, engaged him in a struggle, then later fired at him Monday night, Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said Tuesday.
Fire Thunder, 37, was serving Branham with papers regarding a civil dispute over a tractor, he said.
'Branham pulled a .22 rifle and pointed it at (Fire Thunder),' Royal said. 'There was a little struggle while the victim pushed the barrel away and Branham kept trying to point it at him.'"

Huron Daily Tribune - Gordon retiring after 30 years on duty with HCSD: "When the opportunity came for a Port Austin man to become a law enforcement officer more than 30 years ago, Greg Gordon said he jumped at the chance.
Gordon first worked as a road deputy and then as the first civil process division administrator for the Huron County Sheriff’s Office. But today Gordon’s starting a new chapter in his life — retirement.
Gordon said he’s made a lot of friends and has had some incredible experiences during his time with the sheriff’s office. And if it weren’t for his health, he said he probably would continue doing a job he has grown to love."

POST-TRIBUNE :: News :: Illegally downloading music brings hefty fines: "The minute the process server came to the door with a lawsuit titled Sony BMG Music vs. Roy Cregger, the defendant had a pretty good idea who was going to win.
P>Cregger, a retired steelworker living in Lowell, called a Merrillville attorney anyway, who told him it would cost $3,500 to take on Sony and three other billion-dollar corporations over his alleged illegal downloading of more than 800 copyrighted songs using the Internet file-sharing network, KaZaa.
The record companies, using the services of the Indianapolis mega law firm Locke Reynolds, offered to settle for just $4,750, payable over five months."

The News-Press: Cape Coral: "A Cape Coral man is suing two police officers, a Lee County sheriff's deputy and two civilians after he claims they unlawfully entered his home to serve civil papers and then beat him after he fired a warning shot into the ground, thinking they were burglars.
George 'Mike' Brittain, 52, was acquitted three months after his July 2005 arrest on charges of five felony counts.
He is seeking an unspecified amount of damages claiming bodily injury, mental anguish, lost income and recovery of legal expenses, according to his attorney, Ray Bass. Just for out-of-pocket expenses, Bass said his client will seek in excess of $30,000. He said the lawsuit could be expanded to include the city of Cape Coral.
It started with a domestic violence injunction brought against Brittain by his now-ex-wife, Dorelda Brittain, Bass said. Officers arrived at Brittain's home on Picadilly Circle late at night on July 27, 2005, to serve an injunction against George Brittain, forbidding him from contacting his estranged wife."
