Illegally downloading music brings hefty fines

POST-TRIBUNE :: News :: Illegally downloading music brings hefty fines: "The minute the process server came to the door with a lawsuit titled Sony BMG Music vs. Roy Cregger, the defendant had a pretty good idea who was going to win.
P>Cregger, a retired steelworker living in Lowell, called a Merrillville attorney anyway, who told him it would cost $3,500 to take on Sony and three other billion-dollar corporations over his alleged illegal downloading of more than 800 copyrighted songs using the Internet file-sharing network, KaZaa.

The record companies, using the services of the Indianapolis mega law firm Locke Reynolds, offered to settle for just $4,750, payable over five months."
