It's because of this risk that many people who are involved in a legal situation find themselves in need of a bodyguard. He or she may be scheduled to testify against a gang member, may be a whistle blower within an organization, or may even be an expert witness for the prosecution. In order to avert the risk, a bodyguard is brought on as an intermediary – someone who will stay with the witness and identify an increasing threat before it gets out of control.
Therefore, when hiring a bodyguard, prosecutors often look to someone who they know that they can trust such as a private investigator to provide the service.

Former Mayor's Real Estate to be Sold at Auction
Although authorities say they still do not know what has become of former Ridgeley Mayor Mitchell Reeves' personal property, his real property - three parcels of land that include two structures and a mobile home - are scheduled to be sold at auction on the front steps of the Mineral County Courthouse.
"He's actually got two writs of execution against him," Mineral County process server Jeff Conley said, explaining that James Newburn of Columbia, Md., has said the former Ridgeley mayor owes him approximately $208,000, while Jackie Collins of Mineral County has said Reeves owes her about $65,000.

Speeders in Pinal County busted by photo radar vans could face an additional $36 fee if a process server is needed to hand them a court summons if the ticket is not paid.
The county is looking to institute the new charge to avoid having to pay out of its own pockets for process servers when drivers ignore the tickets they receive in the mail.

Putnam Valley shooting Victim Questions Speed of Prosecutor's Probe
Douglas Greenwich, a beefy electrician from Putnam Valley, lifts his T-shirt and shows a 2-inch red scar on his back.
It marks one of the spots where, he says, he was shot in June by process server Dennis Illuminate.
Illuminate first shot Greenwich in the chest, without provocation, after serving him with divorce papers in the driveway of his home, say Greenwich's lawyers, Joseph A. Orlando and Joseph T. Redd.

Process Server Makes Living Delivering Court Papers
It's R. Scott, whose job as a process server -- someone who serves court papers -- is both dangerous and a critical part of the justice system.
"It's definitely important, because that's how you initiate a case," said Wendy Potts, chief judge of Oakland County Circuit Court. "They've got a lot of responsibility."

Brewers: Dear Dad, Take These Home Runs and Shove It
On a Tuesday night when Prince Fielder supplanted in the record books one of the greatest to ever play the game, the Milwaukee Brewers' first baseman made it clear there is only one player he wants to surpass: his father, Cecil.
The two had a falling out about three years ago, not long after Fielder was the No. 1 pick of the Brewers in the 2002 draft.
When Prince was 18 and playing for the Brewers farm team in Beloit in 2002, he was served papers by a process server naming his father in a debt case as he walked off the field after a game.
The younger Fielder also recounted how he felt slighted when he was drafted because he read and heard the only reason he was a top pick was because of his last name — one well established in the game because of his father's 14-year career during which he hit 319 home runs.

HC Refuses to Reinstate Trial Court Staff
Justice Hema Kohli dismissed a petition filed by Rishipal, a process server in Tis Hazari Court, challenging the April 2006 order passed by the Administrative Civil Judge terminating him from the job for not serving the summons twice in a probate case.
"The charges that were proved against the petitioner were serious in nature, the job of a process server, being an important ingredient in the smooth and efficient functioning of the courts," the Court observed.
